The Last Airbender Action Figures

Spin Master’s Highly Anticipated Toy Line Hit Shelves to Coincide with Theatrical Release of The Last Airbender Feature Film

Just in time to coincide with the July 2 theatrical release of The Last Airbender, Spin Master Ltd.’s toy line for the movie has hit shelves. Build your Airbender world by collecting all of the most popular characters from the movie! Check out each highly-articulated figure with amazing detail. Each 3 3/4″ figure includes one unique weapon/accessory.

“The epic and imaginative nature of this film made it made it an extremely fun project to work on, and a challenge for us to push our boundaries once again in creating an original and fun toy line that would resonate with the fans of this franchise.”

Based on Nickelodeon’s international hit animated series, the live-action release of The Last Airbender tells the story of four nations — Air, Water, Earth, Fire –tied by destiny when the Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others. A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of this destruction. Caught between combat and courage, Aang discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara, a Waterbender, and her brother, Sokka to restore balance to their war-torn world. The Last Airbender is the opening chapter in Aang’s struggle to survive.

Futurama returns to earth with new episodes coming to Comedy Central in June 2010.

It seems that I’m saying this time and time again – but Futurama is back. Comedy Central has picked up the show for 26 new half-hour episodes.

Prepare to be transported to the year 3000 for the return of Fry, Bender, Leela and the usual cast of twelve-dimensional space monsters. Back by popular demand, Matt Groening and David X. Cohen’s brilliantly subversive animated sci-fi comedy Futurama debuts its sixth season of 12 all-new half-hour episodes on Thursday, June 24 at 10:00 p.m. on Comedy Central, kicking off with a special hour-long block of two back-to-back new episodes. The series also reaches a milestone on Thursday, September 2, when it celebrates its 100th episode.

Adventure Time

Adventure Time (formerly Adventure Time with Finn & Jake) is an American animated television series created by Pendleton Ward. Mathematical!

I’m really liking Adventure Time (with Finn & Jake). It’s all about great adventures and nonsensical fun. Perhaps the reason why I like the show so much is that John DiMaggio does the voice of Jake, or that the show was created by Pendleton Ward, or maybe that Thurop Van-Orman is a producer on the show. It’s on Cartoon Network, so you should check it out if you can. Currently there’s new episodes on Monday nights at 8 pm.

The Head and The Maxx DVDs?

The Head and The Maxx: The Complete Series DVDs from MTV.

You know I’m a fan of The Maxx as well as The Head, so finding out about these new (yet to be released) DVDs was a cool surprise. If you recall, these two great animated shows were from the mid 90s and were on MTV’s Oddities or Liquid Television. There’s no more details on when these DVDs will be coming out, so we’ll have to wait and see. While we wait, why not watch all 13 episodes of The Maxx over at MTV.com.

Simpsons Stamps

The Simpsons U.S. postage stamps.

The Simpsons, currently in its 20th year as a regularly scheduled half-hour series, is the longest-running comedy in television history. The show is a cultural phenomenon, recognizable throughout the world and now Uncle Sam is getting in on the deal. Yup, it’s the Simpsons stamps! Starting May 7, the United States Postal Service will make buying stamps and mailing in bills late, more fun! Ay Caramba!

Dear Simpsons family,

How are you? I am fine. Thank you for your cool new stamps. When can we expect to see the hundreds of other townsfolk in stamp form? I like your show very much. I’ve watched every episode. (Even the ones in the first few seasons where you tried to teach me a moral lesson.) Please continue to entertain me with your show, for years to come, and I promise I’ll continue to memorize each and every episode so I can recite the lines later, to others, at inopportune times.

Thanks,
Andrew

WonderCon 2009

This was my first visit to WonderCon in San Francisco and I really enjoyed myself. WonderCon is known as the sister-show of San Diego Comic-Con. I’d say it’s a smaller sister, but even though it wasn’t as huge as SDCC, it has it’s benefits. Since it’s a smaller show, that means there’s less of a crowd and you could get more face time with the stars, which is nice. (Speaking of stars, I met and talked with Henry Winkler (Fonzie) and saw artist Jim Lee.) I also finally met Daniel M. Davis of Steam Crow Monster Commute and Michael Fleming of tweedlebop!

WonderCon features the best in a variety of specialty programming including the very best from, pop culture, Hollywood film and television, but comics are still king at this 23-year-old event. Watchmen was prevalent, but so was Star Trek, Star Wars, G.I. Joe and other comic heroes. This was a nice warm-up for me, as I await SDCC in July. Please enjoy my photos from the show with my slideshow or visit my WonderCon 2009 Flickr set. Perhaps you should consider going to WonderCon next year.

Speed Dating Jerry

Those funny Zucker brothers posted a brand new animated episode of “It’s JerryTime!” for you to enjoy. This hilarious, cleverly-animated episode called “Speed Dating” and it’s about Jerry’s awkward speed dating experience. It stars comedian Kristen Schaal (Mel from Flight of the Conchords) and she’s a riot. Watching this might make you think twice about dating or talking to a stranger of the opposite sex.

X-Men the Animated Series

The 90's X-Men Animated Series coming to DVD.

This popular Marvel mutant cartoon originally debuted back on Halloween of 1992. X-Men the Animated Series was not only one of the longest-lasting series on Fox Kids, it was the longest-running Marvel Comics-based show, running for five seasons and 76 episodes. Whenever I’d flip on the tube and see/hear that familiar opening theme, I’d be in mutant heaven! We’ve been waiting for these episodes to come to DVD for quite awhile and now they finally have. The Two 2-Disc DVD sets will be released on April 28, 2009 and Amazon.com has them up for pre-order for $17.99 each. Marvel X-Men Volume 1 and Marvel X-Men Volume 2. This was easily the best 90′s cartoon we had.
