Star Trek Movie in 2009

Star Trek: In Theaters May 2009. It’s the eleventh Star Trek film and I’ve seen them all. It’s got Zachary Quinto as a young Spock and Leonard Nimoy reprises his role as the old Spock. Shatner wanted to be in the movie, but it’d be a bit tricky since his character died in a previous movie. He should have used his Negotiator powers.

From director J.J. Abrams and screenwriters Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman comes a new vision of the greatest space adventure of all time, Star Trek, featuring a young, new crew venturing boldly where no man has gone before.

Anyone else getting pumped about this movie? I wonder what Wil Wheaton thinks about it?

I’m really excited about it. I’m also not a trek-nerd, at least not in the way I’m a star wars nerd, so I doubt the shift in tone and look from the original stuff will bother me in the same way (luckily.) The only thing I’m waiting to be sold on is whether or not the new Kirk has enough charisma to pull off the character.

i’ve seen every star trek in the theatre with my father. this one will be no exception. (we saw wrath of khan twice - once when it first came on and again last march at the local theatre during a classic movie night) i do wish they would’ve followed the books more but i guess i’ll live with it. the cast, though, is freaking great! Simon Pegg as Scotty? flawless!

Having recently viewed the latest trailer and taken a look at some of the stills from the movie, I have to utter a resounding; “ugh…” I expected an updated look and feel to the designs, but the Enterprise looks gawky and awkward, and the bridge looks like it might give me a headache if I had to spend too much time there… It’s one thing to “modernize” and make things look sleeker, but you should maintain the basic design elements.. From what I’ve seen so far, this bridge is unrecognizable as belonging in the Star Trek universe, let alone as part of the original Enterprise.

The uniforms look cool, though… :-)
