Atari Comic Books

Comic books published by DC Comics in the early 80s loosely based on trademarks of Atari, Inc.

Back in the 80s, when the Atari 2600 came out, these were my favorite literature. Combine two of my all time favorite hobbies - comics and games and you’ve got yourself a literary masterpiece. I literally demolished these mini-comics, having read through them countless times, they wore away and were lost to the ages. It wasn’t until I happened across Atari Age, who amazingly has all these old gaming mini-comics including Atari Force, Swordquest and Yars’ Revenge!

Note: My fav was Centipede and the littlest elf Oliver, who turned his insect friends into mushrooms. No thanks to that mean old hypnotizing wizard.

Great post. Back in the day, I lived and breathed video games and lapped up anything with an Atari logo on it - including junk like their E.T. and Krull games.

Games back then were so much simpler (Centipede was just a rolling ball and button), yet I derived so much more enjoyment from them than the much more advanced games of today. My children will be coming home with the new Force Unleashed game for the Wii today - but it will pale in comparison to the joy I experienced playing the much simpler River Raid or Missle Command. Go figure.

But I digress. I love your site and will add it to my blogroll ASAP. Please visit my neck of the woods, retrospace, when you get a chance.

    Thanks Gilligan!

Simple can be fun. I relish my days with my 2600 and I’m enjoying my Wii too.

You also run a swell site and you’re a welcome addition to my list. Thanks for keeping up with the site!
