Tales of Unusual Circumstance

Tales of Unusual Circumstance is a compilation of short comics by Joey Weiser.

Joey Weiser’s Tales of Unusual Circumstance is now here! It’s a collection of his comics from the last 4 years that has appeared in anthologies, mini-comics and more! Plus it features 48 pages of never-before-seen comics! Get your copy online or see Joey and get your copy at FLUKE, MoCCA, and SPX. Unfortunately it looks like we won’t be seeing Joey at the San Diego Comic-Con this year. Bummer…

As a fan of his work, I can really recommend this. I’ve been lucky enough to meet Joey and pick up his mini-comics and The Ride Home book at the past SDCC. His artwork and quality stories make his comics entertaining to read. Do yourself a favor and get this book today.

Classic CBS TV Online

CBS has the first two seasons of The Twilight Zone online.

CBS has got a good thing going on with their online videos of classic TV programs. The first two seasons of The Twilight Zone, the entire original Star Trek series, the first season of Hawaii 5-0 and even the first season of Macgyver! These can be viewed online for free as part of their new Audience Network. Wow, this is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some old favorites!

I’m going to watch the Twilight Zone episodes first! Those stories twist your brain.

Sheep Dash

Sheep Dash -How fast can you react?

Test your skills and reaction times with this quick paced game of sheep. Be sure you’re wide awake to play. See how alert you are with this game and test the impact of a cup of tea or coffee on your performance. I don’t drink much coffee, it makes me jittery. Here’s an impression of me on coffee. (Yes, I’m just like Brak.)

San Fran Shots 08

Knock-off Marvel action figures trying to look cool.

Come enjoy some photographs from our most recent trip to San Francisco on Flickr. We try to make it to San Fran at least twice a year, because we enjoy it so much. With all the walking, food, fun, sights, walking, stores, toys and plenty of walking. (I’m not a fan of driving in the city, no matter what city because they’re all crazy and I’ve driven plenty of them already.) Getting out, hoofing it and having fun is what we like.

TV Signoffs

Signoff videos of TV stations of the bygone era.

TV-signoffs is J. Alan Wall’s television station sign-off site, which full of videos for those of us that remember a simpler time. It’s a great trip down TV memory lane.

Back in the early days of television, stations weren’t always on 24/7 as they are now. Back before cable and satellite dishes, television was broadcast over the airwaves. So if you were lucky, you had an aerial on your rooftop and you’d watch programs that were “on the air”. I know it sounds archaic, but that’s how it was and we liked it.

I’ve always been an early riser and when I was a kid I’d come back from delivering newspapers door-to-door, get some cereal and plunk down in front of the TV. If it was early enough, all I saw was snow on the tube and heard a fuzzy white noise. Then, on the hour, the TV station would turn on. They’d show a grainy video, play the Star Spangled Banner tune and then your program came on. If you stayed up late at night, you’d see just about the same thing as the station signed off and went back to snow. Now we’ve got 24 hour news stations and infomercials - Yeah!

Genie in a Baby Room

I Am 8-Bit Book Signing 2006 - Gallery 1988 Misha 'Last Supper'.

When I first saw that Jensen, from Gallery Nineteen Eighty Eight, posted about Christina Aguilera, I was a bit surprised. It seems there’s an article in People magazine about how she has decorated her nursery. (I’m not a fan of her music, but I do like her taste in artwork.) There are pictures which include a Misha “Last Supper” print. (Remember that the original piece was from the i am 8-bit show back in 2006?) This publicity has rekindled the interest in this quality sold-out print, so now G1988 will be doing a 2nd printing. Take this opportunity to grab your own while it’s available!

This also reminded me to finally put some of my photos from the i am 8-bit book signing event up on Flickr. That was a fun show!

4CR’s Heart Was Stolen

All Saints Fashion stole 4CRs heart! Artwork by Mitch.

Our friends over at the popular gaming site 4CR, had their heart stolen!

It seems that their artwork, which was posted two years ago for Valentine’s cards, was unceremoniously nabbed by a big fashion company in the UK - All Saints Fashion. What a bunch of bologna! I know that pictures and posts are “borrowed” off the site by seedy folk because this medium makes it easy, but when an actual company steals your artwork and uses it in their merchandise - that’s just wrong!

I wonder what 4CR’s recourse is now? (Perhaps contacting the perpetrators or Consumerist.com or even the U.S. State Department?)

Update (April 9, 2008): Success and victory by 4CR!

Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition

Best selling racing game, Mario Kart in Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition.

It’s a big, big, world of gaming and now Guinness World Records is getting a piece of the market, in their new book. Did you know that the most successful video game documentary was ‘The King of Kong‘? And were you aware that the longest-running comic series based on a video game character is the American comic ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’, which has run for over 14 years? That and lots of other interesting gaming facts are revealed in the book.

Lucky folks in the UK were the first to see the release of this book last week. We’ll see it in the states March 11th. If this sounds good to you reserve your copy today!

Indiana Jones in 2008

Indy is back in 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', May 22, 2008!

Watch the teaser trailer for Indiana Jones on Yahoo! Movies. It’s great to see Steven Spielberg hanging out with Harrison Ford again. I’m looking forward to this movie.

(But what is it with the young sidekicks? They did this for Bruce Willis in the last ‘Die Hard’ movie too with that Mac guy, Justin Long. What is the deal?)

Spore in 2008?

Spore: you control the evolution of a species. Release date announced: Sep 7, 2008.

Spore is a simulation, “god game” that’s been under development for what seems like forever. It was announced today that this highly anticipated game, from the creators of The Sims, will be available worldwide the weekend of September 7, 2008. It’ll be available to play on the PC, Mac, Nintendo DS and mobile phones. I wonder if they’re pulling our chain or will we finally see Spore this fall? I wanna play god.

Sickly Sam’s Big Outing

Sickly Sam's Big Outing: The Homestar Runner helps Sickly Sam get ready for a date.

Listen Up Short Children!! It’s the first full Old-Timey Homestar Runner toon in quite awhile and it includes a color! Sickly Sam gets a date and a full meal in this program.

I do believe you’ve spicked my span.

These old-timey shenanigans from Homestar are the best. The sloppy edits, grainy appearance, the static and pops, and the old-timey speak are the bee’s knees.

National Pancake Day 08

Join IHOP to celebrate National Pancake Day on Tuesday, February 12, 2008.

Flip for Free Pancakes at participating IHOP restaurants this Tuesday! From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., they’ll give you one free short stack (three) of their famous buttermilk pancakes. All they ask is that you consider making a donation to support local children’s hospitals through Children’s Miracle Network, or other local charities.

I know Pancake Day was Feb 5th, but this is for a good cause and you get to enjoy some tasty pancakes! (I don’t mind IHOP reseting my Pancake related holiday this year.) If you can’t make it for breakfast, you can eat pancakes for lunch and/or dinner. I could eat pancakes any time of day! (With lots of syrup too, please.)

WALL-E Movie in 2008

Pixar Animation WALL-E and his cockroach buddy.

If you like family, animated adventures with robots then this new Pixar movie called WALL-E, will knock your socks off! The Pixar animation in these movie trailers are just fantabulous. Doesn’t this film look sweet? A brief synopsis for this film is:

What if mankind had to leave Earth, and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off?

It’s succinct and gets your mind-a-wondering. This will be a great movie if you’ve got kids. Plus if you bought them the Finding Nemo DVD, which they’ve watched a million times, you’ll appreciate a new movie for them to fixate on. It’s sci-fictiony and there is plenty of robots to enjoy and everybody likes robots. It comes out June 27, 2008, so you’ve got a few months to wait.

A big shout out and thanks to lamartherevenger for reminding me about this movie! Congrats again on your new baby boy, Alex!

Note: Just like Google, if Pixar offers you a job, take it!

Animated Adamantium Abounds

The new animated TV series Wolverine & the X-Men.

It appears that there is a new TV show coming to town. Wolverine & The X-Men, a new 26 part animated series from Marvel. From the trailer we can see Wolverine running the shots as the Brotherhood of Mutants causes havoc around town.

When an explosive event shatters the lives of the X-Men and takes away their mentor, the beaten heroes walk away from it all. But then they’re given a rare glimpse into the future, and see a world in utter ruin, ruled by giant destructive robots - a world that spiraled out of control because the X-Men had given up. So now the most legendary of all X-Men takes the lead: Wolverine! Reuniting these broken heroes, Wolverine embarks on the ultimate mission - to prevent the world’s destruction. To rescue us from ourselves. To save the future.

It stars everyone’s favorite mutant, Wolverine. Oh and the X-Men will be in the show too. (I imagine they’ll be playing cameo, so as to not take all of Logan’s camera time.)
