Dragon Ball Z Movie in 2008 2009

As a big fan of Akira Toriyama and his popular Dragon Ball manga and anime, I’ve got mixed feelings about this Dragon Ball Z movie. Sure Stephen Chow is producing the movie and I was simply blown away when I watched Kung Fu Hustle on the opening weekend in Hong Kong a few years ago, but I worry about how this movie will turn out. They always tame stuff down for American audiences, because we scare more easily or something. That and the cast (so far) is from the WB.
Update: As many of you have noted it’ll be a Dragonball movie, which is a good place to start. The movie will be released August 15.
Update 2: No Dragonball Movie this Year… 20th Century Fox has pushed back the date. It is now scheduled for release on April 3, 2009.

how long of a movie will that be? i’m on the same boat as you. where would they start? majin buu? cell? i would like to see freiza personally. they screw it up.

Wow, live-action adaptation… that will be interesting. The article said that “Marsters is playing the villainous Piccolo.” I’m not nearly as knowledgeable about DBZ as the Old Man, but isn’t that near the early parts of the DBZ story?
Anyway, here’s hoping for the best.

Here’s my question.. How can you have a Dragonball or Dragonball Z without Super Saiyan Goku, I mean come on fans around the world have waited for years to see a Live Action Super Saiyan on the BIG SCREEN. I WANT FREIZA!!! so SS Goku can kick his butt!! Can i get amen!!!

i dont want to see something ive already seen it should be a side story like cooler or something i mean why go to the movies to see freeza get his but kicked by goku when i could stay home and put the movie in please dont let us down

This will be based off the first dragon ball series, not the dragon ball Z series. It will start off the movie with goku as young boy meeting chi-chi. His grandfather will make a dying request that he seeks out master roshi and the other remaining dragon balls. Master roshi will train him and then he fights piccolo who is trying to take over the world. It is being filmed in mexico and Los Angolas. I hope this helps. It doesnt loook like crilin or tein or any of the others will be there. but the samurai guy yasharobi will be in it. I hope this helps

Emmy Rossum will be playing bulma. She is learning martial arts and weapons training and how to fire lots of guns lol. So she says on her blog. They have just finnished filming in mexico and the rest will be done in los angelos california. It is set to be released in summer 2008

cgi has come a long way i beleive the fighting can be very entertaining but the story the acting might be a total different story but if any body could pull it off with a huge budget and ok actors 20th century fox could hey i am a huge fan and hope this film does well so they can make vegeta saga freza saga cell saga and majin buu saga when i think about it it seems that would be to far for the big screen but for a fan i would love to see it anime is finaly coming up

Xender’s post is correct…It’s about DB not DBZ. The cast seems a bit flaky…who knows though…if they pull this off and it’s big enough it could lead to a trilogy to follow…which would be bad ass (not to get ahead of myself).

i think that the early beginning of dragonball is a good place to start but i believe that they should do one of the movie battles like broly or even better janemba then we could see SS Vegeta and SS3 goku and last but not least SS Gogeta but i wanna know how they fight scenes will work are they gonna be a blur like the cartoon or just shoot one scene and repeat it like the cartoon dragon ball lovers like me have waited to see a live movie dont we deserve a kick ass just awesome fight to the death they should just go off the story and make SS Goku fight SS Vegeta wouldnt that be a fight

y’all gotta relize that it takes a lot of PC time to come up with all those specail effects for a live action movie for a show like Dragonball and Dragonball Z. i should know, i help make starships for a Star Trek Legacy moding team…
now, if you were to make Goku transform into a Super Saiyan, that means the heavy graphics come into play… not to mention the special effects for flight, and fast moving combat, energy waves, auras, explosions, need i go on? a movie like this will cost a shit tone of money! not that im complainin or anything, but i just hope this movie comes out alright…

I hope the film is exactly like toriyama’s plot (in major percents). i hope the film will never let down DB fans like the x-men film-maker did.

X-men as a whole didn’t let fans down. However, X3 and Superman Returns did. As for the DB films, it’s not just about the DB fans… there aren’t as many DB fans as there are X-men/Spider-Man/Superman/Batman etc. fans. So let’s work with getting a good Stephen Chow flick and expect a story remade for today’s audience. I love DBs and all its incarnations, but don’t expect the anime to be brought into technicolor live action like Schumacher did to Batman 3!

From what i have heard this is going to be a trilogy the first one is called dragonball which we already know. The second one I heard will take place in the frieza saga and wil be called Dragonball Z. And the third one will be the cell saga and will be called Dragonball Z 2. They start filming for the 2nd movie in october or november from what i read!

ss3 or any other super saiyan isnt until later in gokus life. Start from the beginning and introduce all charachters as they were in the toons. Dont mess up the rest of the films with the first one. Of course we want to see Goku and Picollo wup eachothers ass.

So here’s the deal. Dragonball is the PERFECT starting point for this. Many DBZ fan have not seen the original manga brought to the Anime Cartoon series and it’s a shame. It explains alot about the person who is Goku and how he met his wife/friends/learned to fight/etc. To be fair, this is going to have a decent amount of CG. Remember, Goku learned the Kamehameha wave as a child. Yes seeing a live action Super Saiyan would be nice, the series is not just about seeing super saiyans. The story *although a bit immature in spots* is intricate and detailed. The real question is just how true to form are they going to keep this? Bulma has already had a drastic hair color change issue and they’ve opted not to go with the CGI hair for Goku. Not to mention, no Oolong, Puar, etc? I understand the need to make it a bit more big screen compatible. Let’s just hope they don’t screw up and have piccolo in dresses and doing ballet. Ok that’s a lil extreme, but my point is made.

DB is so special among its fans. Its not just a manga, but a story of a boy named son goku who saved the world for many times in a world that never exist with his team that toriyama named it as Z team. As for the film maker, please do respect toriyama and never change the plot. Good luck for the film maker. The characters sholud be oriental faces that DB, like toriyama said “Its more to chinese touch than the japanese side,”. Whatever, good luck guys.

Why don’t you guys introduce Nekomajin to the audience in this DB Movie , if only you guys want to make difference. Nekomajin is a strong cat (a cat like Karin), he did not appear in DB manga, but only appear in Nekomajin Z manga, Goku also appear in the manga, they’re friends. Just a suggestion.

Majin Buu (he also mentioned Mr Satan’s name in Nekomajin Z), Vegeta, Onix (a saiyan), Goten, Grieza (freeza’s son) also appeard in Nekomajin Z. That Chatwin doesnt look like a kid anymore, and he seem doesnt fit to represent goku at the time goku defeat piccolo jr in wushu world tournament in durian island. please dont take it seriously with my comment about mr chatwin.

Dragon Ball Z is doing very well in some places, it has not gone out!!!!!!!! It is still popular!!!! I hope this movie helps it’s chances of gaining even more popularity!!!

yea they are planning on making 3 movies and the first about Piccolo and the next about Frieza and so on so yea i hope yall like it…. shit i hope i like it… dragon ball z was my FAVORITE show when i was a kid and i dont want them to fuck it up like they do with all these other superhero movies
but they know how much this means to people i think they’re trying really hard not to screw it up
