Big Purple Galactus

The Earth Must Die--At the Hand of Galactus! Fantastic Four #173 (Marvel 1976).
The Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer is in US theaters a little early with midnight showings (Thursday night) on June 15th. You can buy your tickets online now. The reviews are coming in and they’re saying this movie is even better than the first flick. I’m planning on seeing the movie anyway even if “comic fans will be very unhappy with the portrayal of Galactus” and with all the “blatant product placement”.

I’m not sure why they decided to forgo the giant, purple Galactus, but here are some ideas:

  • Perhaps he was too “God-like” and that may offend the religious masses.
  • Maybe the studio spent all their CG budget on Silver Surfer.
  • It’s a metaphysical representation.
  • We’re just supposed to use our imaginations.

I am sure it wasn’t because they were afraid to market another Fantastic Four figure.

I’m like you. I’ll go see it anyway. In fact, i’m taking the wife (not big into comics) and my dad, who when in the army in the 60s read FF all the time. He just LOVES the Thing.
