Good Cop, Baby Cop

Will Ferrell meets the toughest cop in the world.

Now here’s an interesting video from “Funny or Die” of Will Ferrell and baby actress Pearl in Good Cop, Baby Cop. These two make a great team and the kid runs the show. The one called The Landlord is really popular too. Probably because it’s silly, cute and a bit crass. That Pearl has got a bad case of potty mouth.

Bowmaster Prelude

Bowmaster Prelude - Respect the bow. Enjoy the game.

Smite your enemies in this fun Flash based game. Defend your castle and your honor while wave upon wave of enemies attack. At the end of each level you can upgrade your armory and grow in power. This is an addictive game, so clear some time on your calendar before you start. If you like these bow and arrow (trajectory type) games, you should also try Bow man.

Fruity Fantastic Four

Fantastic Four Bubble Gum Chunks Ad 1983.

Before their summer blockbuster movie is just a memory, here’s another Fantastic Four classic ad. Not only did they clobber hunger, but this superhero bunch also had some chunky, fruit flavored gum. Mr Fantastic wants his strawberry flavor, the predecessor of Ms Alba as orange, a flaming brief-wearing Johnny loves his grape flavor and the Thing clobbers himself a watermelon. Even if there is a hundred chunks of funky flavored gum in every pack, there’s never enough grape flavor.

Mini Watercolors

Tiny fun in bright colors of Imaginary World characters by Dan Goodsell.

Take a look at the latest cute and colorful creation by Dan Godsell - Mini Watercolors. These watercolors of Imaginary World characters are about 1 1/2″ tall on 8.5×5.5″ paper, which should be for sale soon. Perhaps he’ll bring some to the Comic-Con.

First Annual Crazy 4 Cult

Crazy 4 Cult at Gallery 1988 co-hosted by Kevin Smith, Scott Mosier and Michael Rapaport

The first annual Crazy 4 Cult opens on July 17th, 2007 at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles, CA. Over 50 artists put their own spin on classic cult films creating fantastic original artwork. The opening reception is co-hosted by cult movie icons Kevin Smith, Scott Mosier and Michael Rapaport. You can watch the trailers for this show and test your cult movie skills.

Gallery 1988 had a great iam8bit show and I expect this show will rock as well.

Note: Plasticgod’s Alex (from “A Clockwork Orange”) looks spot-on.

Bizarre New World

Bizarre New World by Skipper Martin, Christopher Provencher and Wes Dzioba.

Bizarre New World from Ape Entertainment. What would you do if you could fly?

The last time I was at the comic shop I picked up this new comic book after browsing through it and being pleasantly surprised. The pencils by Christopher Provencher and coloring by Wes Dzioba completes the humorous story by Skipper Martin. It’s all about a regular guy, Paul, who learns he can fly and how he deals with his strange new ability. The sincerity and humanity comes across wonderfully in the writing and the illustration that draws you into the book as you chuckle while reading through it. I found this comic to be quite refreshing and am looking forward to issue #2 and 3 of this entertaining miniseries. I suggest you pick it up and check out their website.

Update: If you’re interested, here’s a good interview with Skipper Martin and Christopher Provencher.

The Fab Four Food Group

The Imaginary World: Tattooed Pickle, Shaky Bacon, Clem the Lemon and Mr Toast.

Just the other day, I was lucky enough to get a snapshot of the pop-plush group from The Imaginary World (from left to right Tattooed Pickle, Shaky Bacon, Clem the Lemon, and Mr. Toast) as they were leaving the studio. This popular group has taken the plush world by storm. With their unique style and phenomenal talent, they’re creating quite a stir within the industry both here and abroad. Their clothes (and lack of clothes), styles and statements make them trend-setters. I think we owe a lot of their success to Dan Goodsell, who has been their manager from the beginning.

Even though they’re great together, they’re quite talented on their own. In fact, Mr Toast just completed some solo work in this short flick. It’s about a girl who has lost her dearest friend. It seems that Mr Toast is becoming more interested in the avant-garde art scene. What’s next, a solo album by Mr Toast?

Sweet Sweet Sugar

Low-fat Strawberry Pop-Tarts from Kellogg's - with 20 grams of sugar per pastry.

Perhaps you heard the news about Kellogg’s plan to stop pushing sugary cereals to kids and reformulate some of their foods. I’m all for the healthier recipes and wish more food companies and restaurants would do that sort of thing. When I heard last year that NYC and even KFC were doing away with trans fat, I thought that was a great idea. If you can make foods healthier and still taste about the same, do it.

It’s also good news that Kellogg’s will be pulling back their advertising targeting children. Most kids don’t have the experience to deal with commercialism and need to be taught about it. When I see headlines saying “Kids’ Saturday morning television won’t be as sweet”, I see it as a good thing. Let the cartoons sweet talk the kids, not the commercials.

Now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got a sugar mound in the backyard that I must attend to. Must…protect…sugar.

Take-g Toys

Take-g wooden toy robots from Japan.

Take-g toy’s are made from four different kinds of wood and are utilized to express artistic patterns. These Japanese wooden characters are quite unique and look really fun. There’s no mention on pricing or even if these cool crafts are for sale.

Super Mario Papercraft Diorama

Downloadable paper dioramas of Super Mario Brothers at nerd-craft.

Here’s your weekend assignment. Download yourself a paper diorama of Super Mario Brothers World 1-1. Print the PDFs out and follow the easy instructions; cutting and folding all the paper bits. Don’t forget to turn in your Super Mario diorama as it will be graded. This art project will be graded on your completeness and folding prowess. Be sure to watch out for paper cuts and be careful folding the flagpole. (I’d recommend using a straightedge.) It makes a great gift for Father’s Day too!

Big Purple Galactus

The Earth Must Die--At the Hand of Galactus! Fantastic Four #173 (Marvel 1976).
The Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer is in US theaters a little early with midnight showings (Thursday night) on June 15th. You can buy your tickets online now. The reviews are coming in and they’re saying this movie is even better than the first flick. I’m planning on seeing the movie anyway even if “comic fans will be very unhappy with the portrayal of Galactus” and with all the “blatant product placement”.

I’m not sure why they decided to forgo the giant, purple Galactus, but here are some ideas:

  • Perhaps he was too “God-like” and that may offend the religious masses.
  • Maybe the studio spent all their CG budget on Silver Surfer.
  • It’s a metaphysical representation.
  • We’re just supposed to use our imaginations.

I am sure it wasn’t because they were afraid to market another Fantastic Four figure.

Go Have Fun

Playing and jumping are dangerous sign on the side of a store.

Sign expressing an ominous warning for all those who care to read. (You read the sign! Now go back inside and study. Perhaps someday you’ll be a doctor or lawyer.)

I’m here to say that it’s OK to play and jump. In fact you should go do that now and enjoy yourself. Come back here afterwards and tell me all the fun you had. I’ve got to go to work. Someone has got to, while you’re out playing and jumping around.

Simpsonized Pundits

News men art in Simpsons style by Dylan Meconis.

As a fan of the Simpsons and Jon Stewart, I enjoy this illustration. This silly Simpsons styled artwork of news pundits, which include Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart, was done by artist Dylan Meconis. If you like this Simpsonized art, you should check out Simpsonzu too.
