Mash the A Button

I choose you VG Cats!

This time around VG Cats poke fun at our favorite game. It’s funny cause it’s kind of true. Although I’ve got to say that I’m enjoying the game and the new GTS trading system. I did some trading and now I’m running around with all 3 of the starters, laying waste to those around me. No Bidoof can stand against me!

Kool-Aid Adventures

Kool-Aid Man video game made for the Atari 2600 in the early 1980's.

What says summer better than Kool-Aid and playing video games? Starting in the early 1980’s, lucky kids could enjoy their fluorescent, powdered drink mix and play the game too. If you didn’t have the funds (or Kool-Aid points) to buy the Kool-Aid Man video game you’d ask your folks, but some entrepreneuring kids built Kool-Aid stands to earn a few bucks. Here are a few scans from my old Marvel comic entitled “The Adventures Of Kool-Aid Man”. They also include some great specs on how to make your very own Kool-Aid stand. If you were wondering, yes I do own this original issue #1 from 1983. Oh, yeah! Here’s more on issue #2.

X-Men 200

Humberto Ramos' super cover for X-Men 200.

Not only does the upcoming X-Men #200 comic include great artwork, like the wonderful cover by Humberto Ramos, but it also has a compelling story. In the double-sized X-Men #200, Gambit returns and you can expect an all star mutant cast to be on hand. It’s in stores June 27, so be sure to grab a copy for yourself. The cover reminds me a bit of the of X-Men #1 (1991) by Jim Lee.

Ren and Stimpy Art Auction

Big House Blues (1991) - Jim Smith original drawings from the Ren and Stimpy Show.

Want some original, autographed Jim Smith Ren and Stimpy artwork? Well you’re in luck. The fine folk at ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive have just started an auction. Several drawings are available from the Ren and Stimpy Show episode “Big House Blues“, which is a favorite of mine. Starting bids are only $50, so what’s keeping you? It’s your chance to own a great piece of cartoon history like the drawing above. Ren and Stimpy huddling together is just so cute.

70’s Cereal Boxes

1970's Frosted Flakes cereal box from Dan Goodsell.

They’re Great! Dan Goodsell’s collection of cereal boxes is chock full of wonderful classic cereals and marvelous mascots. He picked out a few of his favorite cereal boxes today. I really enjoy the classic simple look these old boxes have. Plus the mascots like Cap’n Crunch, Tony the Tiger and Toucan Sam look so honest and homey, they’re really appealing. StarCraft 2 Announced

Blizzard has announced StarCraft 2 at their packed event in Seoul, South Korea.

It’s about time! Blizzard has finally announced StarCraft 2. (Screenshots, movies, artwork, wallpapers, gameplay and news!) It looks incredibly cool graphically and I’m looking forward to some new Zerg-filled fun. The original StarCraft is still being played today, because it is such a good game and I expect StarCraft 2 to be even better.

StarCraft II is the ultimate competitive real-time strategy game, and the sequel to the hit original, StarCraft. The game will include three completely distinct and balanced races, the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg, which have been overhauled and re-imagined with a number of new units for each, as well as new tricks for some of the classic units that are returning.

The release date will be announced later, so we’ll just have to wait.

All Topsy-Turvy

Topsy-Turvy bus makes statement about US budget.

The wheels on the bus go round and round… The Topsy-Turvy Bus is two school buses welded into one, that is currently touring the country to “dramatically depict America’s upside down budget priorities”. The bus is a project of the Priorities Campaign, headed by Ben Cohen who co-founded Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. The bus was created by noted artist Stefan Sagmeister and was constructed by artist mechanic Tom Kennedy. Definitely a creative idea to get your message out.

Lackadaisy

Tracy J Butler’s Lackadaisy comic, full of guns, cars and cats in the 1920's.

Tracy J. Butler’s Lackadaisy web comic is set in the era of prohibition in St. Louis and it tells the story of a speakeasy and the lives around it. The fun sepia toned comic just happens to have cat characters. You should check it out and also enjoy Tracy’s amazing artwork. I’m not a cat fan, but I am a fan of her work. It’s the Cat’s Meow.

Bee Movie Trailer

Bee Movie is a comedy that will change everything you think you know about bees.

Unlike before, the latest trailer for Jerry Seinfeld’s fully animated Bee Movie actually has scenes from the movie - Yippie! The movie looks comical and includes the voices of Jerry Seinfeld, Renee Zellweger, Matthew Briderick, Chris Rock and more.

Barry B. Benson is a bee just graduated from college and disillusioned with his lone career choice: making honey. Barry discovers humans have been stealing and eating the honey and subsequently decides to file a class action lawsuit against humans.

As if getting stung by bees wasn’t enough, now they want to sue. Bee Movie hits theaters on November 2, 2007. Bzzzzzzzz.

Dear Recipient

I was in a hurry, and forgot to get you a real card.

Someecards.com - “when you care enough to hit send”. They’re e-cards for what you’re sometimes thinking, but not saying. It’s time to stop dressing yourself and Don’t give up on the dreams you never had are just two examples of the silly cards you’ll find on the site. Not intended for those that are upset easily or youngsters.

Top Figures

Crazy logic and balancing game called Top Figures.

The key to playing Top Figures is to remove as many of the support beams from beneath the wiggly little kid and still keep him balanced and happily wiggling. I’m not sure how he got up there in the first place…

Rubber Ducky

Donald Duck forgot his protection.

Rubber Ducky, you’re the one… Here’s a rare piece of Disneyana up for auction that caught my attention. The wartime poster shows an unprepared Donald Duck in quite a predicament with a woman in a tight slinky dress. But from what I’ve been reading about ducks, it looks like she’ll be the one with the predicament.

P.S. I hope you like the double entendre.

Lazer Tag

Win or lose, Lazer Tag is always fun. But why lose?

It was the Christmas season of 1986 and people everywhere were starting to get into the Lazer Tag fad. You were inundated by commercials for the toys and on the Lazer Tag Academy TV show, they peddled a “perfect world”. Get your StarLyte and StarSensor ready to have some laser blasting fun! Will you be idolized in the future for having never been tagged out? It’s be decades since I played the game, but it’s still popular today.

Mr. Orange Abomination

Tales to Astonish #91 - Hulk vs Abomination.

I just read that Tim Roth is set to play Emil Blonsky, the alter ego of the villain Abomination in next year’s Incredible Hulk movie. That reminded me fondly of one of my first comic books that I procured many years ago - Tales to Astonish #91. It’s a pretty good read and it has a nice fight between Abomination and the Hulk. Perhaps an all out radiated rampage between these guys will help this movie do better than the first one. That and a whole new cast and director doesn’t hurt either.

Just like in Reservoir Dogs, I bet that Tim Roth’s character also gets killed in this upcoming Hulk flick, but by Mr. Green.
