Pumpkin Stencils 06

Punkin Patch Halloween Stencils from Homestar Runner

Create your own work of art for the world to see – carve your own pumpkin. You can find some great stencils over at Homestar Runner‘s site. (A new front row was just added.) I don’t know about you, but I’ve never had much luck carving a nice looking pumpkin. Check out these other free pumpkin stencils here, here and here.

Update: Here’s a great link for less conventional PDF patterns. Here’s some cool Spawn patterns.

Update 2: Here are more!

The I Chong

Tommy & Shelby Chong at book signing and comedy show.

I had a great birthday yesterday and celebrated it by going to see Tommy and Shelby Chong. I went with his book in hand (for an autograph) and sat pretty close to the stage. The grey-haired, balding, yet still shaggy comedian was really entertaining with his sharp and witty humor. The crowd was continually laughing, cheering and chanting his name. He’s got quite a following and I’ve been a fan of his for awhile. The audience was made up of both young and old folk. Tommy and his wife put on a great show and you can really see the love the two have for each other. If you get the chance – go get his book and check out his new show.

Vintage Halloween Cards

Cute little pumpkin kids - Old Halloween card art.

Thanks to Kelly for posting a bunch of great vintage Halloween cards up. They don’t make cards like this anymore. You can also check out more great collections here, here and here. I really find these older cards enjoyable and a little freaky.

Cow Milker

Try your hand at this Norwegian cow milking game.

In Melketid, the object of the game is to milk the given number of cows within the time limit. Move the farm hand using the arrows, yell/scare the cow with the spacebar and call/attract the cows by pressing B. (I don’t know if it needs to be said, but beware of the rakes and the fresh cow dung. Sure it might seem like fun, but you might hurt yourself.) Once you’ve got all the cows to the milking area, press the enter key to change to the bearded guy. Then move with the arrows and milk the cows with spacebar. The game is a bit of a challenge, esp. since I don’t read/speak Norwegian.

Classic Ads: Monster Size Skeleton

Old comic book ad: Skeleton glows in the dark, 5 feet tall.

Here’s another classic ad for Halloween – Mr Bones! This 5 foot tall, glow-in-the-dark skeleton will make your spine tingle with its glowing eyes. Shake him and you’d swear he’s “alive”. Great fun at (dull) parties and it’s only $1.75, plus shipping. Your money back if you’re not sufficiently scared. I wonder if kids could be scared by this thing nowadays? Boo!

Classic Ads: Slim Jim Halloween

Old comic book ad: Slim Jim (Dracula) - Satisfy your meat tooth.

Since Halloween is coming up shortly, here’s a classic ad involving our friend Dracula sinking his teeth into a Slim Jim. “A little less than a meal. A little more than a snack.” But for Halloween? I’d prefer candy and chocolates when I was out trick-or-treating, but I guess mechanically separated chicken is fine. Dracula seems pretty happy with it in the picture. I like the artist’s attention to detail – like those skull shaped cufflinks.

Nintendo Toys of Yesteryear

A collection of Nintendo toys the pre-date their video game days.

As you might have known, Nintendo has been around quite a while and before they became a world-wide video gaming phenomenon they made cards, board games and plastic toys. Check out this collection of Nintendo toys that pre-dates 1980. This stuff would be fun to collect.

Coleco Toys and Games Catalog

Coleco Toys and Games circa 1980 - Good Puppy the lovable pup.

A catalog of electronic, plastic and other toys from Coleco for the 1980 store season – here. Remember those old electronic football, hockey, soccer and basketball game systems they had? What about the Lil Genius electronic learning calculator that has no display screen and only a flashing red and green LED to indicate answers. I’m quite fond of the Good Puppy toy, which had national TV coverage as a selling point.

Silent Kimbly

Ryan Sias - comic Silent Kimbly

I saw this art by Ryan Sias on Silent Kimbly and just had to post about it. There are puns aplenty with this cute comic.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance video game, coming soon from Activision.

This action-RPG game from Activision looks really promising. You can choose from Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine, Silver Surfer or any of over twenty other playable heroes. Then you select which other Marvel characters you want to join you on your team. Then your heroes work their way through different levels battling villains like Dr. Doom, Galactus, Rhino and Ultron (to name a few). With all these characters in one game, it will be a Marvel universe extravaganza! I know it will be on my list to buy for the Nintendo Wii this holiday season.

Check out these sweet videos of the game. The game play looks pretty good.
