The Cheat Pumpkin

The Cheat on a pumpkin!

Here’s a great pumpkin carving of The Cheat that was sent to us from a long time fan of the site, Laura. Good job with this cute pumpkin. If anyone else wants to share their pumpkin creations, just contact us. Thanks and have a Happy Halloween!

Strong Mad as The Maxx

Happy Hallow-day with Homestar!

Eggs Tree! Eggs Tree! Read all about it! What happens when nighttime doesn’t come on Halloween? Go enjoy the wacky silliness with another Homestar Halloween episode entitled - Happy Hallow-Day. You’ll see Homestar as Teen Wolf, from the popular 80’s movie were Michael J. Fox played a werewolf. Homsar is dressed as Ed Grimley and Strong Bad as Father Guido Sarducci - both characters played on Saturday Night Live. But the piece de resistance is Strong Mad as The Maxx!

Whatever you dress up as for Halloween this year, just be safe and have a fun time! Don’t eat all the candy at once, it’s got to last you for awhile. At least make sure there’s plenty for breakfast the next morning. Happy Halloween everybody!

National Candy Corn Day

Indian Candy Corn is a confection popular at Halloween.

Did you know that October 30th is National Candy Corn Day? I enjoy this honey flavored Halloween treat - especially the Indian candy corn where the yellow is replaced with chocolate-flavored brown. Yum! Are there any other candy corn connoisseurs out there or are you a candy corn critic?

Monsters of the Movies Paintings

Drunken Carrot as Dracula art by Dan Goodsell.

Our good friend Dan Goodsell has created a themed paintings series of “Monster’s of the Movies” just in time for Halloween, and they’re superb! The paintings are of his Imaginary World characters as some of the big favorite movie monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman and the Invisible Man. They’re as creative as they are humorous. Great work Dan!

Smooky Ghost Story

The ghosts are in the room...

As a ghost, it’s important to know how many eyes you’ve got. This wonderfully entertaining Flash was done by a well known father and son team. I’d love to see more cartoons like this. Thanks Ben and Ben!

Halloween Hangman

Spooky themed, Flash hangman game.

Are you in the mood for a little Halloween Hangman? Do you find that if you’re good at hangman you’re also good at Wheel of Fortune? It’s the same game, but with a wheel. Do you remember when there was that big prize turntable and you could purchase junk from the different sections with the money you won?

Marvel Super Stamps in 2007

The U.S. Postal Service salutes stars from the world of Marvel Comics.

It looks like there’ll be some new Marvel stamps in 2007 from the United States Postal Office. I thought the DC stamps were cool, but these look awesome!

The 10 stamps, will arrive in July 2007, on a pane of 20 depict Captain America, Elektra, Iron Man, Silver Surfer, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Sub-Mariner, The Incredible Hulk, The Thing and Wolverine.

The other 10 stamps depict classic Marvel Comic book covers linked to the super heroes. Information about the artwork shown on each stamp appears on the back on the stamp pane.

I didn’t think Elektra was that popular of a character to deserve a stamp, let alone a (box office flop) movie. I might have picked Rogue or Mystique.

Hearts of Steel

Industrial Revolution Transformers by artist Guido Guidi.

Here’s more steampunk stuff for you, but this time it’s from the Transformers. I know this standalone miniseries came out a few months ago, but I just saw it at the comic shop and said wow! I mean, have you ever wondered what your favorite bots would look like if they existed in different eras? Well wonder no more, as you’ll see steam train Bumblebee being attacked by Decepticons disguised as tanks, trains and walking engines. So if this sounds cool, go pick up the Transformers: Evolutions Hearts of Steel comics now! Comic Shop Locator

Amityville Toaster

Make breakfast spooky from iLL WIll Press

What’s more horrific than an Amityville toaster? This funny Flash is NSFW with all the cursing, but it’s really silly. Jonathan Ian Mathers, the cartoonist, does a swell job making it short and funny. The only toaster horror story I have is when my Pop-tart was burnt and stuck to the inside of the toaster. Now I just eat them raw.

Spooky Sounds at Scar Stuff

A roundup of the spooky sounds posted so far on Scar Stuff.

Halloween is only a week away and Scar Stuff has made a great list of scary sounds, from their previous posts, which you can download. I really like the scary classic cartoon and TV stuff from The Fat Albert Kids, Casper the Friendly Ghost, The Munsters, and the cereal box monsters too. What a great collection of classic Halloween sounds - Thanks Scar Stuff!

Pumpkin Stencils 06

Punkin Patch Stencils - Homestar Runner

Create your own work of art for the world to see - carve your own pumpkin. You can find some great stencils over at Homestar Runner’s site. (A new front row was just added.) I don’t know about you, but I’ve never had much luck carving a nice looking pumpkin. Check out these other free pumpkin stencils here, here and here.

Update: Here’s a great link for less conventional PDF patterns. Here’s some cool Spawn patterns.

The I Chong

Tommy & Shelby Chong at book signing and comedy show.

I had a great birthday yesterday and celebrated it by going to see Tommy and Shelby Chong. I went with his book in hand (for an autograph) and sat pretty close to the stage. The grey-haired, balding, yet still shaggy comedian was really entertaining with his sharp and witty humor. The crowd was continually laughing, cheering and chanting his name. He’s got quite a following and I’ve been a fan of his for awhile. The audience was made up of both young and old folk. Tommy and his wife put on a great show and you can really see the love the two have for each other. If you get the chance - go get his book and check out his new show.

Vintage Halloween Cards

Cute little pumpkin kids - Old Halloween card art.

Thanks to Kelly for posting a bunch of great vintage Halloween cards up. They don’t make cards like this anymore. You can also check out more great collections here, here and here. I really find these older cards enjoyable and a little freaky.

Cow Milker

Try your hand at this Norwegian cow milking game.

In Melketid, the object of the game is to milk the given number of cows within the time limit. Move the farm hand using the arrows, yell/scare the cow with the spacebar and call/attract the cows by pressing B. (I don’t know if it needs to be said, but beware of the rakes and the fresh cow dung. Sure it might seem like fun, but you might hurt yourself.) Once you’ve got all the cows to the milking area, press the enter key to change to the bearded guy. Then move with the arrows and milk the cows with spacebar. The game is a bit of a challenge, esp. since I don’t read/speak Norwegian.

Classic Ads: Monster Size Skeleton

Old comic book ad: Skeleton glows in the dark, 5 feet tall.

Here’s another classic ad for Halloween - Mr Bones! This 5 foot tall, glow-in-the-dark skeleton will make your spine tingle with its glowing eyes. Shake him and you’d swear he’s “alive”. Great fun at (dull) parties and it’s only $1.75, plus shipping. Your money back if you’re not sufficiently scared. I wonder if kids could be scared by this thing nowadays? Boo!
