NES Flashback

Gamespot is taking a look back at one of our beloved gaming systems, the Nintendo Entertainment System. The original NES was released in the U.S. back in August, 1985 and was an instant hit. Its graphics were far superior to any home-based console that had come before it, and it went on to sell over 60 million units worldwide.
I can still recall playing all those great NES games (PDF) for all those hours. I was especially fond of the Dragon Warrior, Mega Man and Zelda games. Leveling up, collecting goodies and clobbering the bad guys- it was great! More great Nintendo nostalgia. What were some of your favorite games from the NES?

My roommate actually just dug up her old NES system this weekend! We’ve been testing out all the old games, which work fairly well considering their age. She’s particularly hooked on Super Mario 3, as that was the one game she never managed to beat. I’m not very good at any of her games but I suppose with practice I’ll get better, hah (her games include Mario 1-3, Tetris, Jaws, Bubble Bobble, Dream World (? not sure on name), Paper Boy, and a number of others). Any idea where we could buy other games for the system?

I only wish I still had mine…
eBay and thrift stores are your best bet for used NES games and possibly the used game section of your local video game store. Some of those games have been ported over to the DS and the PC, but it’s great you still can play and enjoy them on your old NES. Take good care of it.
