Owly by Andy Runton

Andy Runton is the talent behind the Owly series. I found his site when I was browsing around at Top Shelf for an artistic new book. I believe Andy has a talent for gleefully funny cartooning. Owly is now in it’s third graphic novel and it’s getting great reviews by the masses. I’m a big fan of Jeff Smith’s Bone and seeing Andy’s work reminded me of that. The artwork on Andy’s site is simply a pleasure to look at. The Owly books are targeted at younger children, but all of us can enjoy his art. His characters’ facial expressions convey such emotion, much like Smith’s Bone characters.
He also has posted some of his comics, artwork, design and illustration work on his site. Some of his drawings include Hellboy, TMNT, Wolverine, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow from G.I. Joe as well Phred Phish.
So if this peaks your interest, be sure to check out his Owly series, which are available at many fine bookstores.
Note: I also like Andy’s taste in music, which can be seen in his online profile.
