DangerMouse

DangerMouse is the greatest mouse spy the world has ever known in one of the greatest British cartoons television has shown. The famed animation studios of Cosgrove Hall for Thames Television, created these tongue-in-cheek adventures…oh crikey! With its 70s dance groove music, movie spoofs, and pop-up action words, this show has been a big hit since it was first released. DangerMouse is as popular with the kids as it is the adults with all its sophisticated parodies and remarks.
He’s the greatest, he’s fantastic!
Wherever there is danger he’ll be there!
He’s the ace, he’s amazing!
He’s the strongest, he’s the quickest, he’s the best!

Background: DangerMouse first aired in the UK from Sept 1981 to Mar 1992. It was the first British cartoon to break the American TV market, being shown on Nickelodeon in the 1980s. There are 89 episodes to date for this now discontinued series. The DangerMouse cartoon is not to be confused with the DJ of the same name.

Plot and Characters: DangerMouse is the mouse hero, who has the distinguishing black eye patch and white jump suit. He is the smallest secret agent in the world and has had many narrow escapes. DM has saved Britain many times from disaster with his faithful, hamster sidekick, Penfold, who can usually be found cowering nearby in his crumpled blue suit. Whenever danger arises Colonel K, DangerMouse’s boss, gives them a call on one of DM’s many emergency video screens. Colonel K is the walrus Head of British Secret Service who always acts a bit daft.

Of course DM has his enemies and the most reoccurring one is Baron Silas Greenback. Like any good villain the evil frog is always trying to take over the world. He uses the latest hi-tech gizmos to achieve his goal. DM destroys these robots with the greatest of ease. The Baron has his sidekicks too and the most notable one is Stiletto Mafiosi, a really bad crow. Greenback has a pet called Nero which is a cuddly caterpillar and is always by his side.

An early character on the show was later given his own television show. The Count Duckula series is a spin-off from episode “The Four Tasks of Danger Mouse”, where DM was given the task of retrieving a feather from a vampire duck. Both series turned out to be big hits and are available on DVD at many fine retailers. One of the best sites out there more info about DangerMouse is ClubDM.com
