History of Aeon Flux

How Aeon Flux got her start

In the Boston Globe appeared a witty little series about the History of Aeon Flux. The Aeon Flux movie looks promising, but I doubt it can be as good as the original cartoons on Liquid Television.

Robot Pac-Man

Robot Pac-Man

The IREX International Robot Expo 2005, in Japan, has been over for a few months now. A lot of neat gadgets were on display, but this one caught my eye over at Akihabaranews. You can play with a robot Pac-Man using a remote, but watch out for the robot ghosts. There are more pictures and a video at the link.

Nintendo Needs a Revolution

Time for a Revolution

Fool.com has an article about the past issues with the declining console sales of Nintendo.

Amid declining sales and profits, the company absolutely must regain its console dominance of yesteryear with the upcoming Revolution system. With its corporate back against the wall, we’ll see if Nintendo can rise to the challenge and figure out a way to turn the globe back into a Mario-loving world.

What should Nintendo do, exactly? For starters, the company had better follow Bill Gates’ lead…

Perhaps from an investor’s point of view Nintendo might not be the best stock to buy. I definitely don’t agree that they should follow Microsoft’s lead. The console market is always changing and you can’t get ahead just by adding more polygons and speed -where will it end. Content is king, the medium it is delivered on will always be improving and changing.

I don’t disagree that Nintendo probably needs a boost from its next console; but I believe that Nintendo is leading the way with the handheld and wireless gaming, esp. if compared with Microsoft and Sony. Although I’ve read that Microsoft is looking to enter the mobile gaming market.

Nintendo makes its Wi-Fi move

A recent write-up from Joystiq about Nintendo’s latest venture with Wi-Fi on the DS.

Nintendo is striving for the same in the video game market. The idea is to create breakout games and technologies that will appeal to new customers and eventually change demand.

What’s your opinion about this?

Create your own game company

Like video games? Thought of starting your own company? Check out this how-to from Download Squad, where they discuss getting into the game industry. It’s a good light read. Part 2 will be coming shortly.

Of course, nothing beats a great idea. Unfortunately, good ideas are everywhere. What you need to do is make sure your amazing idea is developed properly.

If you’ve not seen the Japanese Mario Kart Ads yet, check them out. They’re darn funny and creative. Too bad the US commercials aren’t this silly.

Slack Attack

Slacker

A neat piece called “Blogged Out: Journalism And The Art Of Slacking” over at Gamasutra. It’s talking about how video games are a great boon to determined slacking. So if you are a procrastinator or in a slump, take some time to give it a read, if you feel like it.

New Colecovision Console Coming

New Colecovision console on the way

Hey, a Joystiq article about a new Colecovision console that is in production! The Coleco website says that if we’ve waited this long for the new console, wait just a bit longer.

I wonder what the new console will look like. If we based it off the previous model, this new model will be amazing. Remember those keypad controllers? Those were just odd. Also losing those plastic game overlays really made the games tricky. We’ll just wait and see if old is classic and classic is cool.

Perhaps with today’s technology they could make the big keypad controllers - wireless….wow!

Animal Crossing: Wild World Site

The Animal Crossing: Wild World site

A Major in Video Games

There is a neat article over at the New York Times entitled “Making Artists: Video Games Are Their Major, So Don’t Call Them Slackers”. It’s a good little read about how video games and their makers will be the soon be the dominant media. It also mentions on how the game industry is in need of new talent and direction. More universities are embracing this new curriculum. Institutions like Parsons and U.S.C. try to give students both the technical and academic backgrounds to become working game designers.

It’s comes to no surprise to me. I know that games are becoming a major part of our lives. It’s all fun and games.

Liquid Television

Liquid Television

Today when you hear the phrase “liquid television”, the first thing that comes to mind may be the liquid crystal display television or LCD TV. But back in the early 90s, before the flat panel televisions came around, there was a 30 minute animated show on MTV called Liquid Television. The show was originally shown on BBC-2 in December of 1990. Then MTV picked up the show in June of 1991, and it lasted three seasons.

Ultimate Wolverine Vs. Hulk

Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk

Wolverine is torn in half by the Hulk this time, when these two Marvel comic favorites battle again. It looks like this new comic is coming out in December and there is other interesting news over at CBR. The original match-up was pretty tame compared to this. It seems that with every iteration of their confrontation it only gets more carnage filled.

Wolverine: My legs … I can smell own damn legs. Four miles … @#$%@# threw my legs four miles.
